On Foot from
Slovenia to Međugorje

The twenty-second arrival to Međugorje of Milan Čehovin from Slovenia was a pilgrimage in the fullest sense – he walked 590 kilometers, from Marija Bistrica to Međugorje. This 590-kilometre journey took him 15 days; he arrived in Međugorje on August 31st. ˝I walked about 40 kilometres daily, and the longest route that I took in a single day was 60 kilometres. I prayed two whole Rosaries each day -- all four aspects, two times seven Our Fathers and Hail Marys, and a few shorter prayers.˝ Milan also found time to read Holy Scripture each day.

Upon arrival to Međugorje he first went to the statue of Mary next to the church, and offered up his pledges and prayers to Her. He felt happy for succeeding in accomplishing his pledge. And it is ever so interesting. ˝Before departure I made the pledge to Jesus and Mary that I shall walk all the way and will not sleep in a bed on that journey, but on the floor instead. I slept beside the road, at the sea coast, in a monastery, in a parish rectory in Benkovac, and twice I refused an offered bed.˝
He points out that such a pilgrimage did not exhaust him that much. ˝During the 15 days I got used to walking and there were no problems. I had several blisters, but there were no other difficulties.˝

Milan came to Međugorje for the first time in 1997, and ever since has come for the International Youth Prayer Festival and the New Year's Eve prayer service. ˝I love Međugorje because Our Lady is here and the people have great faith. The Youth Festival attracts me because of the strong and interesting testimonies, Adoration of the Blessed Sarcrament and many young friends I have come to know˝ he said.˝I have always loved Jesus and Mary;
